SoLS would be quite useless on a mesmer, don't you think?

On above build posted, drop Arcane Echo for Reckless haste and parasitic bond for enfeebling blood. You do not need Arcane Echo, it is a waste of a slot when you have a 10s recharge and space for other skills that are useful in the battle.

Also, I'm not too fond of people using Defile/Desecrate all the time on SS bars...
Just because it's the 'cookie cutter' UW farmer doesn't mean it's any good

The recharges are long, and the unconditional damage is really bad (47 for a Mes... really quite pathetic), and there's better skills you can take - melee shutdown, like Enfeebling Blood, an enchant remover, or some strong PvE skills - Necrosis will deal much better damage, there's the Ebon Standard of Wisdom too, or even "Finish Him!".

I am shocked nobody is bringing up Shadow Of Fear when talking about cursing builds.
Shadow Of Fear is pretty much THE single skill that makes the whole Illusion line obsolete in PvE. (Although Clumsiness alone almost makes it worth it!) It's actually one of those skills that are already elite-worthy.

If you are running curses and wish to do damage - then the first step you need to do is select your team wisely.
Other then the monks - it's really advisable if all other characters are physical damage dealers. Barbs and Mark Of Pain are just insane under those conditions!
So with those two you already have such insane damage that you might want to use your elite slot on something else.
Throw in Shadow Of Fear and Enfeebling Blood and you have some insane debuffs also.
Maybe some interrupts for some caster hate and you're set. (Sure this WOULD work better as a necro - but people seem to like SS.)
(This of course only applies when playing the game normally. Farming is just one of the most broken aspects of PvE - and under no circumstances should it serve as basis to discuss which skills are actually good.)

Not bringing Shadow Of Fear in NORMAL (!!!) PvE is a NO-NO.
SS is just the bonus here. Yet so many players fail to grasp that.
I'd cover SoF with SS! (Well actually I do ... IF I remember to use SS.) It's so much better!

There is no better combo for SS in PvE than Reckless Haste, however I hope Upier just took wrong skill or I don't see any good reason for Shadow Of Fear.

Simple. Team play.
Slower attack rate of SoF means less damage taken - especially with Enfeebling. That means less pressure on the classes that negate damage. It also means that the team doesn't need to stand around and take it - but because so much damage is prevented there is less need to negate it AND there is more room to cause it.
And the the fewer times that they do attack - they do take damage if SS on them. It's a win-win situation.
Contrary to the RH which is a win-win IF you are lucky.
If I want them missing - I go with Well Of Darkness.
Skills that justify the raised threat to the user are really rare. Skills that justify the raised threat to the party are even rarer.
In in my opinion SS+SF just isn't worth it.
SoF is just better.

Shadow of Fear makes them attack slower, meaning they do less damage. Its about a 50% decrease in damage.

Reckless Haste makes them attack faster, but miss 50% of the time. With the high miss rate, they do less damage, about 50% less.

Now, since both of those skills provide about the same reduction in damage, I'd willingly take Reckless over Shadow, as the damage the enemy takes from SS is increased significantly.

Shadow of Fear is a very nice skill, but one for debuffing an enemy, not destroying them. SS is for destroying the enemy, so you don't want to use it with certain debuffs. Faintheartedness is another one you shouldn't combine with SS.

Sorry Magmared but your math is wong as RH also increase attack speed.

The damage reduction is more along the lines of 37,5% (1*125%*50%). Still SoF and SS isn't good, RH and Eblood are much better as it's a real win-win.

That's a terrible idea.

Arcane Echo is wonderful for improving your damage output since there is no spell that comes close to the damage of the echoed SS that you can put on your bar.

Auspicious Incantation can be used on the echoed SS for better e-management and no disabling penalty.

Parasitic Bond is a wonderful cover hex providing strong healing.

As noted Desecrate/Defile Enchantments is a real dumb idea. You sacrifice two skill slots for some meager damage output that's going to be outclassed by your hex output anyway.

No matter how well you design the build you should know it can not be as strong as a necromancer primary SS.

For a mesmer I'd use:

Arcane Echo - Spiteful Spirit - Parasitic Bond - Enfeebling Blood - Auspicious Incantation

^ These skills are the bread and butter of the build. Enfeebling Blood will muffle the damage output from the mob better than anything else.

A necromancer primary should often include Spinal Shivers as a utility but the mesmer energy management is too weak for that spell.

For better energy management I'd add Spirit of Failure combined with Reckless Haste. Reckless Haste is a massively overrated spell, especially since the nerfs to it, but it has a use in this build.

As an interrupt tool I'd include Power Return.

This lands us at:

Arcane Echo - Spiteful Spirit - Parasitic Bond - Enfeebling Blood - Auspicious Incantation - Spirit of Failure - Reckless Haste - Power Return

Curses 12
Inspiration 9+1
Fast Casting 9+1

Other skills to consider would be:

Insidious Parasite

For Nightfall areas:
Ulcerous Lungs
Vocal Minority
Defile Defenses

And some others.

The easiest way you can run this build is make a necro...........this is a necro skill bar and you're not helping anyone here
